Stoking the Flames: Teaching Tips to Ensure Emotional Engagement

The most obvious difference between music lessons and the academic classes our piano students take is that the activity of performing requires deep and constant emotional investment. We all sense that some performing musicians exude greater passion than others, but can this emotional involvement be nurtured and taught? If so, how?
